explanatory apology

So I hope the pictures below will match the post below them... had "technical difficulties" in trying to get them up the other night, I guess that goes hand in hand with the "wardrobe malfunction" that I was wearing during the festival! Weeee

Long Time, No Post

I have no excuse....beyond me being lazy. Well busy, but lazy. Lazy when I'm not busy? I was busy most of the time though, meaning I'm not THAT lazy. Pictures that I am going to put up will probably include...pictures from this year's Yamakasa Festival (If you do NOT want to see my pale, white buttocks please do not enlarge this picture), a "Kimono Party", and ummm some other random pictures. ENJOY....or at least try!

Spring has come, or has it?

It's a cold and breezy day, one of many in the past week. SPRING however has come to Japan. Here are some pictures of cherry blossoms, and friends, and places and what not. How's that for a detailed explanation?

Graduation

My kids graduated!! My kids being not my actual flesh and blood offspring, but the students who were 1st year (sophomores) when I began teaching a few years ago. The ceremony was long, and even though I am no longer teaching at the high school, they made me and a friend sit in the teacher's section. That sounds nice right? WRONG. That means for every single speech and introduction given, we had to stand, bow, sit, stand, bow, sit, stand, bow, sit!!! Aside from that and the rather cold gym, it was a great day! Here are some pictures!

Bringing Things Up to Speed

So here are some recent pictures of what I have been up to while not studying or teaching. Although I am busy, I still manage to get out and about! Umm active volcanos, tea ceremony, friends, fun, and a castle and temple just to remind you that I'm not in Kansas. Take a gander!

Back from the dead, back from the cold!!

Wow. I haven't even looked at this page much in the last 6 months, let alone add new posts. That means I own an apology both to myself and my thousands of fans. So ummm, sorry!! I am studying Japanese now. It's hard. But I'm gonna get good at it, just you wait and see. Recent news: went to Sapporo and it was wonderful. Great city, and the snow was out of this world. Great skiing for anyone who is in or near Japan, or wants to visit Japan and get in some nice skiing at the same time!

CHAMPIONS AT LAST!!!

These are pictures after our victory! I couldn't take pictures of the actual race itself since I was IN it, so I hope to get pictures from friends later, but for now this should give you an idea! Read the long entry below all the pictures for a better explanation of what all happened!

Yamakasa Pics!!!

School and Yamakasa What!?

Here are some pics with the 2 remaining English courses at Nogata HS, 3-8 and 2-8.

Well it took me long enough to get this pics on here!! These are the English teachers at my high school, some past teachers who were kind enough to visit, and some teachers from other departments who liked Sean and myself enough to come and pay their respects!

Heeeeeere's Yuna!! -Notice how I support her head with my hand like a true pro! (that is because half of my friends are not only married, but many are already reproducing.)

Back at Last! I'm back I say!!!

So now it is time for another overdue blog. A drive-by blogging if you will. It's gonna be quick, frightening, and then over!! I will post pics with descriptions (if needed) of my goodbye enkai (dinner and drinking party), and Yamakasa 05' where we did the UNTHINKABLE- after a 6 year hiatus, our team "the east side" or 東流れ WON the big race on the final day!! Not only did we win, but we set a new record, covering the course in 9 minutes 10 seconds! The race itself was much more trying for me than last years. I was told by many fellow racers that it was going to be bloody hot and that because I would sweat a lot I should drink lots of water and not worry about having to pee while wearing my SUPER tight loin cloth. So I being the trusting foreigner that I am, I follow their advice and drink up. Then about 20 minutes after getting wrapped and strapped up in the loincloth, the skies turn black lightening flashes, thunder rolls, and a deluge of water falls from the heavens. It rained for a about 2 hours through the whole opening ceremony. I had to pee like crazy and thought there was nothing to be done but to grit my teeth. Luckily embarrassment is not an issue with this guys...Maybe I should say {em BARE ASS ment} because we are all running around with our butts on display. So I turn to the guy next to me and say "I have to pee like crazy!!" He then explains there is a trick to going while wearing the loin cloth!! He saved my life!! I am pretty sure my bladder would have ruptured otherwise. Once I relieved myself and made sure everything was wear it should be with my errr "uniform", I quickly ran as fast as I could to rejoin my group at their waiting point before our massive float came roaring around the corner. While in the mad dash to push the float someone fell in front of me, causing me to fall and get stepped on by a stampede of half-naked Japanese men. Hitting the concrete "deck" wearing nothing but a loincloth on your bottom half means that your butt doesn't have ANY protection whatsoever from roadrash. I will leave the description out, but let's just say OUCH shall we? Aside from my beat-up-bum and a slightly banged up shoulder I was just fine, and the announcement of our victory and new record shortly thereafter quickly made the pain go away.

After the race, we celebrated like crazy! The head of our team visited all the camps and brought the trophy and flag for all to see, they then filled the trophy with sake and selected members got to take a drink out of the trophy (yes I was one of them) WoOOoOO!! I also wore the head-band and hapi to school that day because my kids get a kick out of me looking like an idiot (who doesn't!?) so that explains the pictures of me wearing a necktie along with 1/2 of the festival's garb.

Also I will include pictures of Tetsuro and Hikaru's new baby girl Yuna!! She has the man's cheeks already and the longest most neatly developed little fingers and toes I have ever seen, I think she could probably play piano with her feet if they continue at this rate!!

So, I am packing and getting ready to move now. Last week I took my Japanese test and interview for going to Kurume University. Although I think I failed the exam, I did pretty well in the interview and they seem to be keen on letting me into their program!! Keeping my fingers crossed until I hear back from them though! I am in the process of moving out of my current apartment and into a MUCH smaller one that is near the university. Consolidating so much stuff is tricky but it MUST be done!! I will be back in the good Ol' US of A in August and look forward to visiting friends and family and escaping the humidity of Japan's BOILING SUMMERS!!

This last month has and continues to be insanely busy for me but I am doing my best to hang in there! Only a few more weeks until I fly back to the states and can take somewhat of a breather! I look forward to seeing as many of my friends as I can while I am back, and of course it will be a great blessing to spend time with my wonderful family!! YAY!!!

You have to look closely but this is a picture of 3 of the hottest guys in Japan. Yeah...so what if it's only May, we were really sweating a LOT! WoOo Doggy!!  Posted by Hello

Anpan-man poses for a shot...I believe he was quoted as saying those who are filled with sweet bean paste will reach enlightment before those with other types of filling... he is on the bottom step though, so what does that tell you? Posted by Hello

It's nice eh? Posted by Hello

Okay so this picture has no connection whatsover to Hiroshima. It is a sign near my apartment. It speaks for itself better than I ever could.... ha! humming wedding. Wha Wha WHAT!?? Posted by Hello

I think this is the ferry that took us to Mitaka, home of Lucas and Tomoko, and some blow fish and crabs. You can see it is quite scenic! Posted by Hello

This is a beautiful garden in the center of Hiroshima. We saw a little boy torturing turtles here, and when we told an employee they just mumbled something and ignored us.  Posted by Hello

Wow it's true, you do look a lot sexier when posing in front of one of Japan's most famous sites!!  Posted by Hello
